TueNight 10: Mallory Kasdan

Mallory Kasdan is the host of MILK Podcast: Moms I’d Like to Know. Mallory is also the author of ELLA, and has been a professional voice actor for television and radio for over 15 years. She writes essays about parenting (including one on the show Parenthood and another about bragging online for TueNight), and has produced arts & culture pieces for public radio. Fun fact: Mallory and Karen met as publishing assistants at Hyperion in the mid 90’s. 1. On the nightstand: Right now I’m into personal essays, middle grade fiction, and mid life crises. To SIri With Love by Judith Newman, Wedding Toasts I’ll Never Giveby Ada Calhoun, Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay, Mrs. Fletcher by Tom Perrotta, and From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler are a few from the stack. 2. Can’t stop/won’t stop: Pondering mid life crises and how they manifest in our anxious and tech-focused times. 3. Jam of the minute: Grateful Dead Europe ’72. I’m in a nostalgia thing after seeing incarnations of the Dead recently and watching Long Strange Trip on Amazon Prime. 4. Thing I miss: My mom and the way she’d “close talk” with people she’d just met. 5. 80’s crush: Lloyd …

TueNight 10: Robin Bobbé

In her 65 years, Robin Bobbé has donned many hats. She’s been a fashion stylist, actor/waitress, documentary producer, casting director and commercial print model among other things. Robin’s latest creative endeavor, The Modernager Blog, is for women who are breaking boundaries — like she does — strutting their stuff and just saying no to growing old gracefully. One of her mottos: “Never stop growing.”  1. On the nightstand: Estrace. I’m 65. 2. Can’t stop/won’t stop: Running and working out. It’s a love hate thing. 3. Jam of the minute: “The Boys Wanna Be Her.” Samantha Bee’s theme song. Hell, I wanna be her. 4. Thing I miss: Little Italy before it became Nolita. The Flower District before it became Nomad. 5. 80’s crush: Val Kilmer. My first film role was opposite Val Kilmer in Real Genius. I was so nervous I forgot my lines and ended up on the cutting room floor. 6. Current crush: Cintra Wilson and Maria Popova. 7. Will whine about: Cellphone wielding machine hogs at the gym. 8. Will wine about: Miraval Rosé. 9. Best thing that happened yesterday:  The subway …

TueNight 10: Carolyn Edgar

As one of our TueNight regulars, Carolyn Edgar has regaled us with tales of her Prince adoration, her happiness quotient, and the challenges of turning 50. In her everyday life, Carolyn is a lawyer and writer who lives in New York City as well as a candidate for the MFA in Creative Writing at City College of New York. She tells us she’s prepping for the fall semester by reading lots of great novels and thinking about all the writing she didn’t do this summer. #NoShame Carolyn! Neither did we. 1. On the nightstand: One of my two cats, who has knocked down everything else that belongs on the nightstand to make room for herself.  2. Can’t stop/won’t stop: Reading. I should be writing, but I’ve been bitten by the reading bug instead. My favorite read of the summer, so far, is Victor LaValle’s The Changeling — beautifully written and creepy! 3. Jam of the minute: “The Story of OJ” — Jay-Z 4. Thing I miss: Alone Time 5. 80’s crush: Prince (see also, 90s crush, 00s crush, 2010s crush…still so sad he’s gone) 6. Current crush: Idris …

TueNight 10: Kim O’Donnel

Kim O’Donnel is a chef, food writer and teacher. She’s penned three cookbooks, including the newly released PNW Veg: 100 Vegetable RecipesInspired by the Pacific Northwest. Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, she’s been based in Seattle since 2008.  When she’s not on the road, Kim is the chef-in-residence at a Seattle branch of the YMCA, cooking and teaching food literacy. 1. On the nightstand:
Salt Houses by Hala  Alyan, Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders, Bianco by Chris Bianco. 2. Can’t stop/won’t stop: Preaching the gospel of home cooking. If more of us cooked 1 more meal per week, we’d be happier +  healthier. (I also will stop everything for a cop show – ‘Bosch’ is most recent fave.) 3. Jam of the minute: “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” by Justin Timberlake. What can I say – I like happy music. (Also: strawberry-vanilla  bean from my preserve pantry.)
 4. Thing I miss: Manners as a rule rather than an exception. Let’s bring back ‘please’ and ‘thank you,’ pretty please! (Thanks.)
 5. 80’s crush: Bruce Willis in Moonlighting 6. Current crush: Issa Rae
 7. Will whine about: Under-salted food, tow …
