TueNight 10: Mallory Kasdan

Mallory Kasdan is the host of MILK Podcast: Moms I’d Like to Know. Mallory is also the author of ELLA, and has been a professional voice actor for television and radio for over 15 years. She writes essays about parenting (including one on the show Parenthood and another about bragging online for TueNight), and has produced arts & culture pieces for public radio. Fun fact: Mallory and Karen met as publishing assistants at Hyperion in the mid 90’s.

1. On the nightstand: Right now I’m into personal essays, middle grade fiction, and mid life crises. To SIri With Love by Judith Newman, Wedding Toasts I’ll Never Giveby Ada Calhoun, Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay, Mrs. Fletcher by Tom Perrotta, and From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler are a few from the stack.

2. Can’t stop/won’t stop: Pondering mid life crises and how they manifest in our anxious and tech-focused times.

3. Jam of the minute: Grateful Dead Europe ’72. I’m in a nostalgia thing after seeing incarnations of the Dead recently and watching Long Strange Trip on Amazon Prime.

4. Thing I miss: My mom and the way she’d “close talk” with people she’d just met.

5. 80’s crush: Lloyd Dobler

6. Current crush: My husband, even though we have a contest about who is more annoying. And Maggie Haberman from the NYTimes.

7. Will whine about: The current horrendous, racist, sexist, anti-semetic, homophobic absolutely unacceptable “administration,” if you can call it that.

8. Will wine about: A New Zealand Sauvingnon Blanc, super cold, enjoyed on a Brooklyn rooftop in the summer with my strong as hell female friends.

9. Best thing that happened yesterday:  I got to interview a journalist I admire for my podcast about life with her autistic son. Also, I wore my yoga clothes all day and actually went to yoga.

10. Looking forward to: Disconnecting from social media and the news cycle at the beach next week with my family. Plugging back in for the work we all have to do eradicate hate in this country, and for “Werk It,” a female podcast convention I’m attending in October.
