Comfy shoes for summer

9 Summer Shoes That Will Keep Your Feet in a State of Happy

Happy feet, it has been said, are the secret to a happy life. Or maybe I just said that. Anyway, as someone with a myriad of foot ailments, I am ALWAYS in search of the next, better, comfy — and not cringingly ugly — shoe.  The kind that keep your heels on a bed of squishy softness, the kind that don’t crunch your toes into a triangular point, the kind that air our tootsies and display our fabulous orange pedi, the kind you can walk in for more than 10 minutes, the kind with enough of a toe box to fit hammertoes and bunions. (Did we say we’re a site for women over 40? We know from toe box)

Two of TueNight’s most popular posts are this 2015 one on comfy summer shoes and, go figure, this 2017 one on comfy summer shoes, so clearly we should be a comfy shoes site. Instead, here is our basic update for Summer 2019.

This time we asked TueNighters, friends and a few fashionistas about their fave hot weather soles. They did not disappoint.

Karrie Myers Taylor, Astrologer and Holistic Health Coach

Crocs Sexi-Flips, $39

“Crocs are the LAST summer shoes I ever thought I’d be getting compliments on.  I try not to wear anything associated with questionable celebrity chefs or Portlandia.  But, these Crocs Sexi-Flips are not only comfy, light-weight and quick-drying, they have a super flattering design that attracts admirers left and right!”

Kim France, Girls of a Certain Age

Clarks Annadel Ivory, $64

“I require my footwear to endow me with at least a little height, which is at odds with my more recent desire for my footwear not to torture me. Happily, these Clark’s wedges deliver on both fronts: they’re like walking on a cloud, and make me a couple of inches taller, and additionally could not be much cuter.”

Stacy London, Author, Formerly of WhatNotToWear

The Everlane Day Slide Sandal, $88

“It’s got a good foot bed, doesn’t make your feet sweat and is chic for day or casual evening.”

Amanda Clayman, Financial Therapist

Bionica Yolanda Wedge, $50

“For me this shoe checks alllll the boxes: goes with everything, super on-trend yet classic enough to keep for several seasons, and affordable while still being of excellent quality. And the insole is so comfortable I think it might be secretly orthopedic, but I’m not asking any questions.”

Kork-Ease sandals for summer

Nancy Davis Kho, Midlife Mixtape

The Kork-Ease Wedge, Austin Braid$145

“Since I can’t find the fantastic pewter Dansko chunky sandal that I first read about on TueNight and wear constantly, I’ll recommend the OTHER summer sandal in heavy rotation over here – the Kork-Ease wedge. They’re light, they’re comfortable, and they have that ‘70s vibe that makes every outfit funky. I feel like they make my legs look way longer when I wear them with shorts, which I’m trying to do more because these legs are only going to get worse than they are right now so I may as well show them off!”

Tracey Lynn Lloyd, TueNight Editor

FitFlop, Crystall Toe-Thong Sandals, $60

“I like the idea of a flip-flop, but they don’t have good arch support. FitFlops have supportive footbeds, and most of their sandals have a band across the instep which I find very comfortable. Also, you can buy them in fabric or leather, and many styles have sequins, crystals or some other shiny addition. Indeed, I will be wearing crystal-adorned metallic FitFlops to a wedding next month, because just the idea of wearing heels makes my toes cramp!”

Sarah Chiwaya, Curvily.com

Nic + Zoe, Calle Mule, $134

“My current fave is this Nic + Zoe mule. The block heel gives them the perfect combination of style and walkability, and the supple leather molded to my feet without pinching my toes like so many pointed heels do.” Here is Sarah wearing these shoes on the ‘Gram.

Diana Kane, Diane Kane shop owner

Custom Chuck Taylor All Star Pride Low Top, $80

“I tend to wear a lot of sneakers in the summer and I am loving the Converse Pride collection right now, with the rainbow soles. You can customize them too!”

Audrey Gelman, The Wing founder

Feit leather sandals, $450

These were on the pricier side but we loved Audrey’s pick for comfort and style, “I love Feit! I also wear Keds and Tevas.” While we — of course — knew the latter two, Audrey hipped us to Feit whose leather sandals are inspired by the Japanese Geta flip-flop.
