Yes, yes we know — we deliver every Tuesday. Well, sometimes we just can’t wait. To that end, here are a few of the things we’re browsing, viewing and can’t wait to watch. Enjoy your weekend!
CELEBRATE & DONATE
International Women’s Day. You’re probably saying to yourself, “Well, of course, Yay Women!” — but how can you actually make a difference on International Women’s Day (#WD2014) March 8? Catapult.org, a crowd funding site, focused on promoting gender equality, has created a fantastic (if harrowing) campaign “Make International Women’s Day More Than Just a Cover Story” to promote several worthy causes for women, internationally. From the Malala Fund to educate girls, to helping Afghan girls, previously in danger of being forced to marry, to pursue their dreams, there are plenty of worthy causes to support and make a difference.
The National Day of Unplugging. NDU begins tonight at sundown — and continues for 24 hours. Can you free yourself of your smart phones, computers, Facebook and Twitter accounts for a day? And instead “connect with the people in your street, neighborhood and city, have an uninterrupted meal or read a book to your child,” as the NDU project suggests? We’re giving it the old college try, and hopefully will succeed.
Daylight Savings Time Begins at 2AM on Sunday, so don’t forget to turn your still-manual timepieces an hour ahead on Sunday morning. Yes, we lose an hour, which sucks in terms of sleep, however it will now stay lighter later — a sure sign that spring is on its way.
True Detective Season Finale. Finally (hopefully!) all of our questions will be answered. Who is this Yellow King? Is he the killer? And has he been right in front of our eyes all of this time this whole time? On Sunday we will find out, and bid adieu to Marty Hart and Rust Cohle. (Sunday, March 9, HBO)
